Gospel Reflection - August 5, 2012

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME (John 6:24-35)

So they said to him,
"Sir, give us this bread always."
Jesus said to them,
"I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst."

In this reading, a continuation of the previous Gospels, the crowds follow Jesus, searching for more signs that he is the Son of God.  He reiterates that they are to believe in him, "the one God sent" and if they do that they will never be hungry or thirsty - they still do not understand, but ask him for "this bread" to which he replies "I am the bread of life."

Lord help me to believe.
